This creature is, according to my quick Google search, a member of the genus Agapostemon (also known as a "sweat bee"). I caught it as it was moving between two asters. I don't know that I have ever seen a metallic green bee before; I do know for sure that I have never photographed one before.
Wow. That's great. The colours just pop.
