My attempt to photograph smoke, using my denim jacket as a background. It sort of works, if you bear in mind that the jacket is uniformly the colour it shows in the bottom right corner of the photo.
My best smoke shot ever is one I took when we were burning a brush pile late one afternoon. I got the smoke backlit by a low sun. This works quite well, I think. You might try jacking up the contrast just for fun.
